Hi All

While driving back through Melbourne today, I called into ikea for a quick look. (If you can ever have a 'quick look' at Ikea!!)

They had a glass top for a chest of drawers at 80 x 48 cm - could be good for a cocktail cab top, nice & cheap & made of tempered glass.

Here's the docket on it:Image, and here it is on teir website: http://www.ikea.com/au/en/catalog/products/40172443. There are 3 sizes available too :)

Hope this can help one of the sisterhood perhaps :)

Nice find frosty!

It's sorta the same size as the one I'll need for my cocktail top...might look into it.

That is a good find!

Naturally there is no IKEA in Townsville.

Yeah, and I suppose an 1800km delivery would kill the cheapness of it too :(

Typical, jumped on Ikeas website to check the availability of this glass in Perth....nil stock.

Not all bad though, they have quite a range of glass shelves in varying sizes,

http://www.ikea.com/aa/en/search/?query=glass+shelf

including this set of 2

http://www.ikea.com/aa/en/catalog/products/70177298

for $35 which would do. Means I'd have a spare too.

A couple of other options for me to explore too, including some glass fridge shelves left from my days at F and P.

Anyway glass is a while off, though I will need to make the cocktail top with it in mind!

Why anybody would go to Ikea out of choice is beyond me.

The place is chaos. Managed to get there, and in and out though in 25mins so not too bad. Cash registers were 10 deep in customers though.

Anyway, the glass looks great! Smokey grey with a rounded edge and about 5mm thick.

I reckon I'll be able to adapt my top to accomodate it!

Thanks for the tip Frosty

Reckon you could put the measurements up, and maybe a pic?

Wonder if they deliver...

Sure can...I got the MALM 800x480mm $30 in WA as compared to $25 over east.

The Robotron uses a glass strip down the middle of the top, not covering the full top. See below...

Image

Mine will be slightly wider, but should be ok...Glass strip specs on the plans call for a piece
425mm x 762mm this one is 480x800, so I'll give the top a bit of overhang lengthwise,
and the width might span the control cut out a little bit. Should be sweet.
For only 30bux I'll make it fit!

I'll post a pic of the glass ASAP.
