This project started as a digital pinball project. I had received confimation of a new job offer, so I organised to have a week off between the old job and the new one. During that time I got an old machine run up with the pinball software and all working with the dual screens and IPAC2 and buttons.

Time to build the pinball cabinet...

...bugger...I have zero woodworking skills.

With that in mind I hit up a local arcade machine repair business to see if they had an old arcade cabinet that I can purchase as an intermediary project. That never eventuated so I managed to find one in a local classifieds for $50:

thumbs up...

thats what i did (but i payed $220 for an old neo-geo from a jukebox hire place)

now i need to have enough spare time to get it all working 100%... it seems the more i work on it, the more things go wrong... but that is cos i rush everything...

good luck.

You really should leave the erections to the experts Heath.

Krudds would be your first point of call on woodworking skills Raen. He's our resident chippie!

I'm a little rusty these days on the latest specs in joining 2 lumps of wood together but will sort you out in steel fabrication/engineering if you want the cab to weigh a tonne!.

Good luck with it mate. We all have to start somewhere.

Fast forward a few weeks and things have been delayed due to bad weather, waiting on parts and my daughter 2nd birthday.

I have gutted the cabinet and begun prepping by patching up a couple of minor chips here and there, priming one side and giving it a quick coat of paint to see how it looks. Started work on the control panel in MDF. Seems to be going OK so far (maybe I don't suck at woodwork?).

Looking good mate, as does the control panel! No, you don't suck at woodwork. :)

Alrighty, I'll update this thread with pictures soon. The cab is in a working, playable state and there are only a few things (mostly cosmetic) left.

- replace door panel & paint
- paint inside of rear panel
- replace glass that has developed a crack right across it
- mount iPac somewhere
- a few other very minor things if I can be bothered

Edit: Oh, and work out why on earth Double Dragon doesn't work!

Pics will be good!

With Double Dragon can you run it directly from the MAME interface?

I'll have to take some more pictures. Have spent far too much time playing the thing instead of finishing it off.

I wasn't overly pleased with how the control panel turned out, so I redid the whole thing. Cut the MDF, drilled holes and covered in a nice black vinyl overlay. Looks sweet.

Still need to replace the glass and work out the Double Dragon thing. It works on the media PC inside, so no idea. If worse comes to worst I have another PC the same model as the media PC so I can throw that in the cab.
