Just the planning stages for now! Thinking a jukebox, not a mini one, a touch screen one.

I'm thinking neon lights that pulse in time with the music and as I mentioned, neons!

I have a 12" sub, 4 channel amp and PC parts, just need a touch screen monitor and speakers - and figuring out how to connect the amp/sub/speakers to the PC.

Early days but you know me, I need a project!

Might be wroth paying for a decent sound card, if you don't want to use on-board audio?

Sing out if you need help.

I figured I probably would :)

The one thing I do want to find out about is hooking up the speakers, subs and amps to the PC sound.

I have a 4 channel amp, can I use that to drive both the speakers and sub or will the sub require its own amp? Can I run the amp off an ATX PSU using the 12v line?
BTW, it's all car audio gear.

Going to investigate the possibility of an LCD screen overlay to enable touch to see if I can save a few bucks.

Rule #1 - dont use car audio

The power requirements for the amp are too high, and will cost $100's for a power converter.

You will be greatly disappointed if you go this way.

+100 here - you can grab an old amp anywhere for relatively few bucks these days, even one with remote volume.

It not the speakers that's the problem. Its the power requirements of the amps.

I use car speaker in my jukeboxes as they are louder that home theatre speakers. But, need to make sure that the amps can support 4 ohm speakers which many do.

The thing to look for when purchasing amps is if they run off 240v or what toroidal and power supply is needed to get to the voltage needed. 12v amps wont be much use to you. a 240v 1A amplifier is equivalent to 12v 20A.

Also look for the amps distortion rating. I use amps which are 0.05% THD.

A simple electronic forumla may be useful here.

P = VI

P= 240V x 1A = 240W
P= 12V x 20A = 240W

So yes, certainly equivalent.

But yes, distortion rating is the key. No good having a jukebox that clips the audio and sounds like shite.
