Sweet! Great to see a new project on the go!

I can tell you the cheap screens such as the Soniq's are definitely up to the task in terms of quality. The only thing is the one I got doesn't have the last power state function so I need to turn it on via the remote each time. No biggie, just something to be aware of :)

Good luck!

picked up my apollo 13 cabinet today, was a bit rough but can be fixed. the guy also gave me an early williams cab for free as well.

so BGH the soniq screens are good enough for smooth gameplay? which one did you get (and did you de-case it)

cheers

I'll have to check the model number but it wasn't one of the Smart TV bullshit ones, just a basic LCD and yep, playback quality is top notch, in fact it's on par with the original Samsung panel I had in there in V1.0!

Fully decased and you need to be careful with it when you've done it but once it's sitting in the cab under toughened glass you'll be sweet. Just watch out as I ripped out the ground wire when decasing the front of it but easily fixed :) Oh and if you do go a Soniq you can (and will want to) disable the gay in the bum startup sound it has!

Just make sure your primary graphics card to run the playfield is a good one, mine is an nVidia GTX670, you really don't want to skimp here as some of the newer tables are very demanding. Oh and get v9.90 of Visual Pin, it's been updated to DX9 and some of the tables are fuck off good. Medieval Madness for instance, wow! Look for the tables made for the latest version (which may be 9.20 in some cases). Monster Bash PC Killer edition is also amazing but you do need lots of PC power for it. It didn't kill my PC :)

"fuck off good" well that sounds ace!

the pc i was given is a AMD Phenom II processor and a graphics card that looks like a batmobile (i shit you not!) 8gn ripjaws ram, and i put a crucial MX 256gb SSD in it.
graphics card - http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.a ... 6814125309

wifey said "wouldnt you buy a new one?" well i cant disagree with her, but she also said a few hours later "can you stop spending so we can save for our gold coast trip"
well i should stop buying her stripper shoes and dress ups... my dick just wont agree with me....

im also confused as what to do next.... should i make one REAL pin and a virtual pin as well???? if so what one to do what with..... parts for both are probably hard to get.... but Apollo 13 has a THIRTEEN BALL MULTIBALL !!!!!

Ha! It does look like a batmobile! If I were you I'd use that for the backglass and DMD as it won't have the grunt for the playfield, you'll be getting stutters. Look for the AMD equivalent of an nVidia GTX770, maybe the R9 280X. Seeing as you have one AMD card in there you should stick with AMD for both.

The SSD will make your load times nice and quick. I'm not overly familiar with the AMD CPUs so time will tell how that one performs. In my first build I had an A8 which did alright for the most part.

Seriously? You're looking at building a real table? I would find every hat I could and put them on just so I could take them off to you, that would be a very cool thing to do. The pinball, not all the hats.

ive decided to use the apollo 13 as the virtual cab. and the Zaccaria - Star Gods i will put on the backburner and slowly build up parts for a game... as it is an older williams base (Zaccaria machines are williams based) i might find it hard to find the parts, but will be less of a headache with less complex parts etc... i hope.

one question, my mobo has only one pci express slot, does that mean i can only have one graphics card?

Ooh one PCIe slot will be an issue. Does it have any PCI slots? If it does I'm wondering if a PCI card could be run as well. Alternatively you could pick up a new motherboard like this one for $69

Meant to say before I'll have to see if Apollo 13 is available for VP, 13 ball multiball sounds insane!
